Litho & Digital Printing by Accelerate Brand Studio, Johannesburg

The choice between litho and digital comes down to quantity. Litho has a setup cost but a low cost per unit, so it wins on long runs. Digital has almost no setup, so it wins on short runs and anything that needs to be on a desk tomorrow.

We run both. High-speed litho with Pantone colour accuracy for large volumes, and digital printing for short runs and fast turnaround — and we will tell you honestly which one your job should be on.

What we produce

Why produce this with Accelerate

We run print and manufacturing in the same business, across two divisions — Brand Studio and Brand Workshop. That means a project needing litho & digital printing alongside other branding does not get split between suppliers, so brand colour stays consistent and there is one person accountable for the deadline.

We are based in Randburg, Johannesburg and deliver nationwide. Every enquiry gets a written quote with a firm deadline within 24 hours on business days.

Litho & Digital Printing FAQs

The questions we get asked most about litho & digital printing.

What is the difference between litho and digital printing?
Litho printing transfers ink from plates to a rubber blanket and then onto the sheet. Making plates costs money up front but each sheet is then cheap, so litho is the economical choice on long runs and it can hit exact Pantone spot colours. Digital printing goes straight from file to sheet with no plates, making it faster and cheaper on short runs.
Which is better for 500 brochures — litho or digital?
At 500 units it depends on the page count, the stock and whether you need exact brand colour matching. That quantity sits near the crossover point, so we price both and recommend the one that gives you the better result for the money. Send us the specification and we will show you the comparison.
How should I supply artwork for printing?
A press-ready PDF with 3mm bleed, crop marks, fonts embedded or outlined, and images at 300dpi in CMYK. We also accept AI, EPS and PSD files. If your file is not set up for print, our studio team can prepare it — it is far cheaper to fix artwork before plates are made than after.
Can you match our exact brand Pantone colour?
On litho, yes — spot colours are mixed to the Pantone reference, which is the most accurate way to reproduce a brand colour. On digital, colours are built from process inks, so we get as close as the process allows. If exact brand colour is critical, tell us at quoting stage so we specify litho.
Do you print business cards with special finishes?
Yes. Business cards are the most common job for premium finishing — velvet-touch lamination, foiling, Spot UV, Scodix and embossing are all done in-house, so the printing and the finishing stay on one job card rather than being split between suppliers.
