Finishing is what separates a business card people keep from one they lose. The print underneath can be identical — the difference is felt, not seen, in the moment someone picks it up.

We apply metallic and matt foiling, debossing, Spot UV and Scodix, plus gloss, matt, velvet-touch and anti-scratch lamination. These are the finishes that make packaging, business cards, covers and invitations read as premium.

What is Spot UV printing?

Spot UV is a high-gloss varnish applied only to selected areas of a printed piece — a logo, a pattern or a headline — while the rest stays matt. The contrast between matt and gloss is what creates the effect, so it works best on a matt-laminated stock rather than an already glossy one.

What is the difference between foiling and Scodix?

Foiling bonds a thin metallic or matt foil onto the sheet using heat and a die, giving a true metallic shine. Scodix builds up a clear or foiled raised layer digitally, so it adds physical height and texture and does not need a die made. Scodix is more flexible for short runs; traditional foiling still gives the richest metallic finish.

What artwork do you need for foiling or embossing?

A separate vector layer showing exactly which elements must be foiled, embossed or varnished, supplied as 100% solid black on its own layer in an AI, EPS or PDF file. Without that layer we have to interpret the design, which risks the finish landing in the wrong place. Our studio team can prepare it if you only have flat artwork.

Can you foil in colours other than gold and silver?

Yes. Alongside metallic gold and silver we work with matt foils, copper, holographic and a range of coloured foils. Matt foils in a brand colour are increasingly popular because they read as premium without the shine of a traditional metallic.

What is velvet-touch lamination?

Velvet-touch, also called soft-touch, is a matt laminate with a slightly rubbery, suede-like feel. It is used on business cards, packaging and covers because it changes how the piece feels in the hand. It also pairs particularly well with Spot UV, where the gloss areas contrast sharply against the soft matt.
